The Barrier Islands Center The Barrier Islands Center, located on the former Almshoue Farm in Machipongo is a gem of a cultural history museum. It uses artfully designed exhibits and original documentary film to tell the stories of the people who lived, worked, and played on Virginia’s Barrier Islands. They host multiple public and private events each year.
Bay Creek Beach and Golf Community Bay Creek’s award-winning golf resort is the first in the United States to feature signature courses from two of the top names in golf - Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer. Golf digest has consistently named our courses among the best in the state, while Golf World ranked Bay Creek 12th on its list of top golf resorts in America.
Cape Charles Yacht Center Full service yacht center right in the town harbor.
Chatham Vineyards Chatham Vineyards is owned and operated by the Wehner family at historic Chatham Farm which has been a working farm for four centuries. They are located on Church Neck in Machipongo, Va. (Just 10-minutes north of Eyerville Plantation.) A retail testing room is located in the winery and outdoor seating for relaxing on a pretty day. Check their site for fun events too!
Fisherman’s Island National Wildlife Refuge Hike the trails, kayak the marshes, and look up at the sky for numerous species of birds that fly by.
Kiptopeke State Park Kiptopeke State Park offers recreational access to the Chesapeake Bay. It’s also a great place to explore unique migratory bird habitat along the Atlantic flyway. The park has two and three bedroom cabins, six-bedroom lodges, RV and tent camping, yurts and a bunkhouse. Guests also enjoy the park’s boat ramp, lighted fishing pier, picnic areas, 5.1 miles of hiking and biking trails, a playground, a beach boathouse, and a swimming beach. Seasonal interpretive and education programs focus on natural history, birding, and bay ecology.
Nautical Fishing Charters Fish for Redfish, Cobia, and more with Captain Kevin Grubb who has over 20 years on the water and has guided more than 1,000 happy anglers. Kevin runs Tarpon Charters April-May in Sutherland Key, Florida and spends the summer months here on the Eastern Shore. 4, 6, and 8 hour charters are available whether you’re a serious angler or a family seeking some good fun. Kevin offers guided tours with either spin or fly tackle.
